The GTKWave Electronic Waveform Viewer, developed by Tony Bell at the University of Manchester, is unrelated to PhysioNet's program of the same name. For information about Tony Bell's GTKWave, visit the Advanced Processor Technology Group's web site.
PhysioNet's GTKWave is no longer under development and is unsupported.
If you are looking for a way to view and edit WFDB records, please use WAVE, now available for MS-Windows, GNU/Linux and Mac OS X.
GTKWave was a reimplementation of the original WAVE using the Gimp Tool Kit (GTK+). The goal for this version of GTKWave was functional equivalence with the XView version. The current release is not under development and should be considered usable but potentially unstable. We do not recommend use of GTKWave by general users.
GTKWave has been developed under Linux and should be portable to any other version of Unix. GTKWave uses GTK+ 1.2, which is included in most current Linux distributions and is available for many other versions of Unix. Install the most recent stable version of GTK+ for your operating system. (See www.gtk.org for more information.) Recent versions of the WFDB Software Package and W3C libwww libraries are required; if you have not already done so, follow the instructions to install the latest stable releases from PhysioNet.
GTKWave runs on all modern versions of MS-Windows. In order to use GTKWave's analysis functions under MS-Windows, you must download and install Cygwin. (GTKWave's analysis functions require components of Cygwin, a free Unix-like environment for MS-Windows that also includes the GNU C compiler and a complete set of the development tools needed to build the WFDB Software Package and GTKWave.)
GTKWave is based on George Moody's original WAVE for Unix. The WAVE User's Guide is the primary documentation for GTKWave. In most cases, the guide applies to GTKWave, although the illustrations show the original WAVE.

User's Guide (other than a cosmetic difference in the user interface elements),
please check the GTKWave Beta Notes page
to see if this difference has already been reported.
Questions and Bug Reports
GTKWave is no longer being developed by PhysioNet. GTKWave users should switch to WAVE, which is now supported on all common operating system. Questions regarding the project can be sent to Isaac. Please do not send bug reports.

MS-Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP:
Important: The GTKWave binary installation for MS-Windows includes necessary updates for several files from the WFDB software package. Install the WFDB software package before installing GTKWave if you plan to install both packages. (The applications from the app directory of the WFDB software package are included in the GTKWave package, so you may not need to install both packages.)
