PhysioNet was founded in 1999 under the auspices of the National Center for Research Resources (NCRR) of the NIH, as part of their P41 Biotechnology program. Beginning in 2007, PhysioNet has been jointly funded by the National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) and the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS). PhysioNet’s primary investigators and staff are at Boston’s Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center/Harvard Medical School and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
